Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water: Review

The Purpose of This Product

Given the amount of waterproof makeup on the market, traditional facial cleansers are not enough. In an effort to help makeup hold up throughout a long day, oils and additives are used to keep makeup looking flawless. While having makeup last all day is great, removing it all at night can be a pain. There's no doubt that sleeping with a full face of makeup causes breakouts and irritates skin. So going to bed with a full face is simply not an option.

Garnier was one of the first brands to introduce Micellar Water to the American public, they now three varieties to target different skin care needs. Their product claims to be an “All-In-1 Cleanser and Makeup Remover” by using micelles to lift and trap excess oil and makeup. They also claim that regardless of skin type, their product will gently remove all makeup with no rinsing or harsh rubbing.

Typically I use a three or four step process to remove all my makeup to my satisfaction. I was really curious to see if micelluar water could eliminate or reduce the amount of steps in my skin care regime.

Application

As per usual I wore a full face of makeup to really test the effectiveness of this product.  This is how my makeup holds up after 13 hours wear.

My makeup included:

  • Medium Coverage Foundation
  • Under eye concealer
  • Blush
  • Bronzer
  • Highlight
  • Brow powder
  • Eye shadow
  • Primer
  • Waterproof mascara
  • Eyeliner
  • Matte setting spray
How I Used The Product

By following the directions as followed, I did not rub harshly nor did I scrub. I used cotton rounds for each area of my face. One pad was used for my eye area and the other for cheeks and nose. For the eye area, I placed a cotton round on the area and held for about 30 seconds before wiping away.

My Impressions
Smell

The smell is not overpowering by any means, which is great for those with sensitive or acne prone skin. For myself I have oily skin through and through. Some micellar waters add essential oils or scents which can linger for hours, that is not the case with this product.

Consistency

The product is not heavy nor overly sticky. After using the product, my face was not left with a film or oily sheen. In fact my skin was left pillowly soft to the touch and refreshed. I placed the product directly on my eye and did not experience any irritability or redness.

Effectiveness

There is no doubt that this product was able to remove all my makeup without a trace. Most times I cannot get those kind of result after using a cleanser. Whenever I only use a cleanser, I am left with raccoon eyes or a burning sensation.

One side is completely clear thanks to this product

Is It Worth The Purchase?

Considering the price point hovering around $7 at most retailers, I would say this product delivers beyond expectations. It is something worth rotating into your skincare regime, especially for those who wear heavy or full coverage makeup.
