Natural Skincare For Men With Acne

Acne is tricky and it isn’t limited to effecting just teenagers. In fact, adult men and women suffer from stubborn acne at varying degrees throughout their lifetime. While there are numerous products on the market for women with unclear complexions, men often have a hard time finding acceptable solutions to their problem.

In general, acne rears its ugly head around puberty; but, it can last far into adulthood. For many sufferers, extreme measures have to be taken to clear the skin. However, most people can smooth out their complexion using basic over-the-counter medications or natural remedies. Still, knowing which of those solutions works for men can be difficult, especially since so many of them are marketed towards women.

Investing in chemical peels, serums, prescription medications and harsh cleansers may work for some, but most complexions need little more than a gentle and natural regimen to get things under control. It’s time to unpack your medicine cabinet. Try some of these highly effective skincare tips for men with acne.

TIP: Your diet plays a significant role in the health and handsomeness of your skin. By eating a balanced diet that is dense in nutrients and by consuming plenty of water each day, the following tips and tricks will work a whole lot better.

Going Cold Turkey on the Medicines: Swapping Your Ineffective Acne Swag for Natural Remedies

Following one or more of these homespun solutions to male acne can make a big difference in your appearance and peace of mind. In addition, it will likely save you tons of money since natural remedies are both inexpensive and gentle on the skin, requiring few other products to fix the problems created by the potentially harmful chemicals in most over-the-counter and prescription solutions.

Clean Your Face with Oil

While it may seem counterintuitive, certain types of oil can actually decrease the amount of acne-causing oil on your face, neck, chest, and back. Typically, we are told that overly oily skin is the perfect breeding ground for breakouts; but, that information is incomplete. It turns out that cleansing the skin with rosehip or coconut oil can have a dramatic and positive effect on your complexion.

Not only do these two types of antibacterial oils clean the face but they also leave your skin feeling super soft. Organic, cold-pressed rosehip oil quenches your parched complexion’s thirst while replenishing its nutrient bank. Coconut oil does much the same thing, although it has an additional benefit: it removes dirt and oil while also pulling out the acne-causing sebum from your pores.

A quick cleansing regimen using one or both these oils each night before bed (or even first thing in the morning) can present significant results within just a few short weeks. A continued regimen will keep your breakouts under control while also fighting fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Moreover, your skin’s oil production will begin to normalize over time, naturally preventing future pimples and blackheads.

Use Honey as a Complexion Booster

Honey tastes delicious; but, it has far more uses than a natural sweetener. Because it is an effective antibacterial, honey can fight acne better than most of the over-the-counter, chemical laden products on today’s market. Honey inhibits present and future breakouts by removing excess bacteria and balancing your skin’s oil production. As an added bonus, it also moisturizes the skin. It’s nature’s own one-two punch for your complexion (and if any of it gets in your mouth, you get a free treat).

Since honey can be slightly difficult to work with as a facial cleanser, use the following method to get the job done without all the stickiness:

  • Pour about 1 teaspoon of raw honey into a small bowl
  • Dampen your fingers with warm water
  • Dip your dampened fingers into the bowl of honey
  • Rub the honey on your face, neck, and/or chest to create a thin layer
  • Leave the honey mask on for about 60-90 seconds
  • Rinse it off with warm water

HINT: You may need to use a wet cotton cloth to get the excess honey off your face or out of your hair (if you’re messy). Just be sure the cloth is clean before wiping it across your skin. Also, be mindful of the chemicals used the cloth’s cleaning solution, as it may do more harm than good to your freshly washed face.

Tone Up with Witch Hazel and Apple Cider Vinegar

A freshly cleaned face can always use a high-quality toner, but many of the modern market’s toning products over-dry the skin and create more problems than they solve. By using what nature has given you, that pesky acne that has become the bane of your existence will have to find somewhere else to camp out.

Both products provide an extremely gentle exfoliating effect and can calm down swollen or painful breakouts instantly. Apple cider vinegar and witch hazel are known for their ability to balance skin pH levels as well, making them the perfect addition to your skincare regimen. While the mixture may not smell the best, it’s an effective and inexpensive one.

As often as possible and especially in the evenings and mornings, apply a mixture of alcohol-free witch hazel and apple cider vinegar to your skin. You can use a pre-mixed spray bottle or a cotton swab but try not to use your fingers as they are typically laden with bacteria and oil. Allow the mixture to dry on your skin before moving on the any other steps you may take.

Apply Cinnamon, Nutmeg & Honey As A Spot Treatment

You’ve already learned about the acne fighting supremacy of raw honey, but did you know that it works as an effective spot treatment when combined with nutmeg and cinnamon? This gentle yet powerful paste can make a huge difference in the way your skin looks and feels, especially if you have cystic or hormonal acne. While a regimen using these natural products may take a bit longer than the rest to effectively fight breakouts, the results are astonishing.

DIY: Face Mask
  • Combine 1 tablespoon of honey with enough cinnamon to create a paste in a small bowl
  • Sprinkle in some nutmeg (freshly grated is your best bet if you’ve got it)
  • Apply the paste to your face, neck, chest, and/or back in a generous layer
  • Allow the mixture to sit on your skin for 15-20 minutes
  • Rinse it all off with warm water or a clean, damp cloth.

For even more acne-fighting power, leave this spot treatment on for a bit longer. As always, use a cotton cloth that’s been washed in a natural detergent for best results.
