Makeup can be used to create unique looks, but refreshing and caring for your skin will do wonders for it and help makeup look better on you! Here are some simple honey based DIY masks that I try to do 2 times a week. I prefer the Normal mask for myself, feel free to experiment! Your ticket to better skin has been in your pantry along! Enjoy and try to resist eating these masks! Over time these masks will help your skin retain a PH level closer to the ideal level and will easily supplement any current skin regime.
HONEY
If you didn’t know this already, you’ll want to make honey based products a part of your everyday routine after learning some quick facts!
- Ideal for sensitive skin
- Retains and absorbs moisture
- Can help fade scars and dark spots over time
- Healing properties
- Reduces bacteria that leads to acne
Note: Make sure skin is slightly damp to work mask in
What You'll Need
Oily skin or Acne prone skin use this mask:
- 3 teaspoons raw (unfiltered) honey
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
MIx the two ingredients into a bowl, mix until cinnamon fully dissolves into honey, use fingers or clean foundation makeup brush to apply onto skin. Lie down, relax for 10-30 min, then rinse off. The cinnamon acts as an anti-inflammatory agent to help reduce the look of redness in skin (caused by Rosacea or acne).
Disclaimer: Test a small patch, if you are unsure how your skin will react
Sensitive Skin
- 3 teaspoons raw (unfiltered) honey
- 1 teaspoon Aloe Vera gel (preferably from an organic source or actual leaf)
Mix well, apply to skin, let it set for 10-30 min, rinse and moisturize!
Normal Skin
- 3 teaspoon raw (unfiltered) honey
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
MIx well, apply to skin, and let it set for 10-30 min, rinse!
This is more like your typical scrub, the grain properties of the sugar remove dead skin in a gentler manner than the walnut shells used in other fruit scrubs that can leave micro cuts and damage skin. These micro cuts then lead to uneven skin surface appearance and can have an effect on how your makeup applies.
Brightening Mask
- 3 teaspoon raw (unfiltered) honey
- 1 teaspoon pure lemon juice
Lemon juice has natural brightening properties which help fade dark spots/age spots and scars. Brightens skin for a more youthful glow!
All these masks are simple to make, kind to skin, produce great results, and are cost-effective when compared to high-end products! Give one of them a try. It is better to make a batch for a couple days’ worth of usage to get the most of the ingredients, over time they can lose their potency.
